This week Tang (Lucy Liu) has a really bad day on TNT’s fantastic cop series “Southland”. After being served with divorce papers she is pissed off and determined to make everyone as miserable as she is. First by giving a guy a ticket when waiting for his wife with a broken leg and then by shooting a teen with a “toy gun”. This causes some tension with her partner Cooper who realizes that she tampered with the toy gun. Cooper is so disturbed by the whole thing that he has to see his sponsor. Meanwhile, Sammy is still pissed at Ben for questioning his integrety and isn’t ready to forgive him even though he stops a deranged, broken bottle wielding, rape victim from stabbing him. Really hope the two off them can work things out beacuse the comrodery they had was a fun aspect of the show. Lydia is not ready to let anyone know she is pregnant even though they all suspect it. Her partner Robinson (Dorian Missick) is actually starting to grow on me. It is nice to see Lydia have the same partner for more than a few episodes. It’s nice to see that he still has her back even though she wont come clean to him about the pregnancy. “Southland” airs Tuesday’s 10pm on TNT, I for one have my DVR set to record.
Intense episode of “Southland” this week that includes stabbing, biting, a near miscarriage, and a swastika loving birthday boy named Adolph! Due to a department shortage Lydia is put on the streets as a sergeant. The extra physical demands almost cause her to have a miscarriage and make it harder for her to keep the pregnancy a secret. It seems that the honeymoon is over for partners Sammy and Sherman, after Sherman falsely accuses Sammy of planting evidence. Great twists with this storyline that end up revealing how Sherman really feels about Sammy. Not sure the pair will be able to return to their bromance and prank wars. Cooper and Tang are forced to ride with a reality TV crew. They accidentally cause a woman to get stabbed, give a father on his way to a job interview a break, and help a bakery deal with an upset customer that wants a Nazi themed birthday cake for his son. Things really heat up when after arriving on the scene of a fight Cooper is attacked by a crazy juice head bites through his neck. Great scene where the reality camera man does nothing to help Cooper from being attacked and is determined to catch the whole thing on film. This series gets better each week and this weeks cliffhanger was especially thrilling. “Southland” airs on TNT Tuesday at 10pm. I for one have my DVR set to record.
Another stellar episode of TNT’s “Southland” this week. Ben and Sammy are locked in a prank war where nothing is off-limits. Their pranks range from a car full of birds to a fake pregnancy. Sammy is also able to convince an ex crack head to come forward about who committed a murder in his neighborhood. The former crack head ends up getting shot, but thankfully survives. Cooper celebrates 20 years on the force (22 actually), and helps save a troubled gay teen from committing suicide. Cooper also admits to the kid that he is gay and tells him that things will get better. My gaydar had not gone off for Cooper and here I was hoping he would hook up with his partner Tang. While Cooper is able to catch the kid after he jumps from a building, the kid later kills himself at the hospital. Dewey and Tang help Cooper celebrate his 20 years with drinks and tales of his adventures. Meanwhile Lydia is still hiding her pregnancy from her partner, even though he clearly knows what’s going on. The two of them solve a case involving a father who kills his son after realizing he is not right and finding both disturbing pictures on his computer and a murder kit under his bed. “Southland” airs Tuesday at 10pm on TNT. I for one have my DVR set to record.
This week we saw just how much the officers on “Southland” care about the people and even the animals they protect. Between a homeless ex-marine, a dog that’s been shot, and an unplanned pregnancy the cops of L.A. are dedicated to not leaving any man, animal or fetus behind. The biggest news this week is that Lydia is pregnant and trying to figure out if she should become a mother. What makes this particularly hard for her is that both her mother and doctor seem to subtly encourage her to get an abortion (ouch!). Dying to know who the father is and how the pregnancy will play out in the rest of the season. Cooper finally gets to learn a bit more about his new partner Tang and I am really hoping a romance blossoms between them. Hell if anyone deserves to get laid on that show its Cooper. It is really amazing how “Southland” manages to fit so many different cases in each episode and the show is so great that some moments come across more like an episode of “Cops” then a scripted drama. Watch this show! “Southland” airs on USA 10pm Tuesday nights. I for one have my DVR set to record and so should you !
“Southland” is quickly becoming one of my favorite shows on TV. With dozens of police shows on TV it manages to really stand out and give a fresh and unique take on the popular genre. There is so much going on in each episode that it is hard to believe the show is only an hour. This weeks episode featured, orthodox jews, a pedophile, a gang leader, a tasered coach and a murder. Sherman has become an internet sensation from punching a teenage girl and having it caught on video. This seems to have both positive effects on him with some woman now throwing themselves at him while others want to throw down. Sammy, who is still obsessed with gangs sets his sights on gang leader Day Day Crawford. Crawford rapes the members of his gangs girlfriends and this does not sit well with Sammy who wants to take him down. After handcuffing him to a telephone pole Day Day’s gang members take revenge on him and kill him themselves. Meanwhile Tang and Cooper catch a thief who targets jews on the sabbath and in one of my new favorite scenes let a guy have a free punch in the face to a guy who sucker punched him (awesome). They also respond to a pedophile that has his head shaved and tagged by his neighbors. The episode ends with a very “Spartacus” moment where after the pedophile’s house is set on fire all the neighbors one by one say they did it. Lydia and her new partner (who is finally starting to grow on me) solve a murder of a woman who was responsible for her neighbor losing their house. This is such a great show and I can’t wait for next week when we find out Lydia is preggers!!?!?!? I really can’t stress enough how great this show is! “Southland” airs on TNT 10pm on Tuesday, I for one have my DVR set to record!
“Southland” has all the action of a big budget movie and the complex characters of a HBO series, it’s hard to belive this show was almost canceled (smart move NBC). Bokeem Woodbine is back this week for his third appearance as Officer Jones and really adds a nice touch to the ensemble cast. A severed hand, a spontaneous combustion masturbation, a cat loving NRA member, and a guest appearance by Marla Gibbs from the TV show classic “227” are only part of what makes this episode awesome! Carl Lumbly is a new Captain and he isn’t going to settle for anything but the best from his officers. While this is the type of leadership Sherman had wanted, he is really starting to learn that the only thing black and white about being a cop are the cars. There is some great hidden meta-humor with Marla Hill’s character mistaking Regina King for her “Brenda” character from “227”. Another great guest appearance this week is from Glenn Plummer (Speed, Showgirls), as a wrongly convicted man who enacted revenge. Lucy Liu has been doing a really nice job and I have never enjoyed her more. I wonder is there will be any romance between her and Cooper. If you are not watching “Southland” now you will! Don’t be a follower and get in now! It airs on TNT @ 10pm Tuesday nights. I for one have my DVR set to record!
The gritty and raw drama “Southland”, about Los Angeles police officers is back for its fourth season. This show has gone through the wringer being canceled from NBC and having a constantly rotating cast. Still the show is authentic with intriguing characters that are likable even though they are deeply flawed. For season four Lucy Liu and Lou Diamond Phillips have joined the cast and it looks like their characters aren’t going to make thing easy for the returning Ben McKenzie (Ben Sherman) and Michael Cudlitz (John Cooper). Regina King is also back and its no surprise to fans that she once again has a new partner. Shaw Hasoty returns as Sammy Bryant who is no longer a Detective and now a father. Hasoty is fantastic in this series and his characters arc is one of the best on TV in recent years. C. Thomas Howell also really shines in this series and brings much appreciated humor to this intense, heart pounding show. If you are a fan of shows like “The Shield” and “The Wire” then you really need to check out this action packed series! “Southland” airs on TNT Tuesdays at 10pm, I for one have my DVR set to record.
