Fox debuted a double dose of “Alcatraz” this week and I’m sure they are hoping it is their next big hit. Being a huge fan of both producer J.J. Abrams and the movie “The Rock” I was sure to check it out. After watching the first two episodes of this new SiFi drama I may not be hooked, but it does have enough of my interest to make sure I don’t attempt escape. The show has a little “Lost”, with a dash of “Fringe” and a ah ha moment at each conclusion. The premise is basically when Alcatraz closed what really happened was that everyone on the island disappeared and now years later start popping up one by one. Sam Neil plays a shady government agent who puts a task force together to find these people as they appear. The group includes a spunky ex cop whose grandfather is one of the lost prisoners and recently killed her partner(crazy coincidence), and Alcatraz expert and my favorite fat guy Jorge Garcia (Hurley from “Lost”). Of coarse like all Abrams productions nothing is what it seems and you are not really sure who the bad guy is. I will definetly keep watching and if you are a fan of “Lost” it is worth checking out. “Alcatraz” air on FOX Monday nights. I for one have my DVR set to record.
This ain’t no Nic Cage “Alcatraz”
